"Yes, we had a great time yesterday discovering Goueé's music!
We have a marvelous group, too. All of these works are just outstanding.
It is very original, too, as it doesn't really sound like anything else.
Sometimes I hear Roussel, though. And of course he uses Franckian cyclic form”.

The intensity of his expressive Third Quartet ... suggests that he is the French counterpart to Kurtag,
Ligeti, Martinu, and Wiener... The Violin Sonata is in three movements,
the opening Animeé' rather demanding that the solo violin climb along the fingerboard in small steps,
the chomatic line askew, angula, and expressive in the manner of jaded Ravel and Koechlin,
Certainly the Franck and Debussy sonatas prove an influence, but Goueé's style transcends the epigone...".

Dramatic and passionate, Goueé' pours out his soul in its angst-ridden narrative...
A quirky rondo complete the work; its tongue-in-cheek humour and jazz-infested rhythms would certainly have found
favour with Milhaud and Poulenc

Well recorded, this is music that deserves to be heard. All concerned in the performances do full justice to these attractive scores.

Diane Andersen's idiomatic performances have great appeal and are aided by a well-recorded piano and sympathetic acoustic.
It has been gratifying to encounter this rarely performed music.

I have come to know EÉ'mile Goueé's music quite by chance and I must say that I was hooked by what I heard then;....
I managed to hear more of it and, although I realise that there is still much more that I should hear,
I am in no doubt that here is a major composer whose composing career was abruptly cut short at a time when he had still much to say

At a purely impressionistic level the Symphony appears to be played with warmth; indeed a confident fervour.
There are no half measures here...
Intriguing. For those who would like to delve below the surface of French mid-twentieth century music.
